De prijsdaling heeft waarschijnlijk ook de ontmanteling van de theorie van de « menselijke oorsprong van de klimaatverwarming gestart. Deze daling heeft de rentabiliteit van alle alternatieve energiebronnen en investeringen in schist-koolwaterstoffen en diepzee-boringen afgehaald. Hierdoor het geopolitieke schaakbord omwerpend, zou dit de US militairen terug kunnen roepen naar het Nabije Oosten en het Pentagon kunnen dwingen definitief de theorie van de « constructieve chaos » te laten varen.
