A Rússia fez já saber que, em função dos tratados, defenderá a Arménia se esta for atacada, mas que a sua segurança nacional não é posta em causa pelo que se passa no Carabaque. Desde já, a única questão é estabelecer se a Turquia agiu a ordens dos Ocidentais, ou se tomou uma iniciativa que os seus aliados são susceptíveis de vir a virar contra ela.
